Tasting- 19 Crimes Cali Red(Snoop Dog) 2021

Image
Name: 19 Crimes Cali Red(Snoop Dog) 2021 Variety: 65% Petite Sirah,30% Zinfandel, 5% Merlot(Red Blend) Country or Origin: USA Region of Origin: Sonoma California Price: $15 Wine Folly: Page 96 Chardonnay. Petite Sirah is known for deep colored reds with dark fruit flavors. With those characteristics it should be paired with heavy fatty meals. It should have notes of sugar plum, blueberry, black tea, dark chocolate, and black pepper. My Review: This wine is very sweet as soon as you taste it which make sense because it should have flavors of sugar plum. I do get notes of vanilla as described on the online review. But I feel like the sweetness overpowers the flavors and it takes away from the wine. It finishes with a very dry flavor which means it has a lot of tannins. After you swallow you are instantly hit with the tannins and then it leaves a sour flavor in my mouth that tastes like plastic. Overall not my favorite and definitely too sweet of a red wine for me. Tasting- FJ Serra 2020

Image
Name: FJ Serra 2020 Variety: Chardonnay Country or Origin: USA Region of Origin: California Price: $8 Wine Folly: Page 96 Chardonnay. Chardonnay is one of the worlds most popular grapes. It pairs best with subtle spices and flavors so seafood is a good pairing. It should have notes of yellow apple, starfruit, pineapple, vanilla, and butter. It should be served cold, and should not be decanted My Review: This wine is not my favorite. I am usually not a fan of white wine and this one especially does not do anything for me. I find it hard to find any of the notes that wine folly said this wine should have. I do get a note of yellow apple and pineapple but that is from the sour acidic flavor I am tasting. Off the nose it really does not do anything as I get notes of bleach. It does not taste very good either as it tastes sort of chemically as well. I paired it with some bellavitano cheese as well and the cheese was good but when I paired it with the wine it overpowered the cheese and it w...

Tasting-Inycon 2022

Image
Name: Inycon 2022 Variety: Pinot Grigio Country or Origin: Italy Region of Origin: Terra Siciliane, Mendoza Price: $10.00 Wine Folly: Page 149 on Pinot Gris (AKA pinot grigio) It should have tastes of lemon zest, cantaloupe, raw almond, peach and crushed gravel.  My Review: I am usually not a white wine guy if I say so myself. But this white wine has me feeling different. It’s a very light bodied wine that  has a very fruity flavor. I specifically notice the fragrances and tastes of lemon. I also notice an earthy nutty undertone that makes my taste buds tingle. I was able to pair this wine with chocolate chip cookies that my roommate made and I do not think the rich flavor of the cookie paired well with the light fruity flavors of the wine. I also noticed a nice effervescence of flowers when I smelled it. Wine review online: Nick Simonis said simple wine, but very nice price, citrus and apple on the pallet

Tasting- Domaine Bousquet 2021

Image
Name: Domaine Bousquet 2021 Variety: Malbec Country or Origin: Argentina Region of Origin: Tupungato Uco Valley, Mendoza Price: $15.00 Wine Folly: Page 125 on Malbecs. I definitely get notes of Vanilla and Blackberry from this wine. I also taste a full bodied wine with very little sweetness which is a characteristic of Malbecs. Page 198 on Argentina. Argentina is a region known for Malbecs which is due to the high elevation that is great for growing Malbecs. Page 126 about Mendoza. Mendoza is the region it is from and should have hints of mocha, red pepper flakes, and sweet tobacco. Malbecs from this region also receive minimal oak aging. My Review: This was my first time ever having a malbec and I thought it was delicious. I got notes of black berry and cocoa as well. I did not pair this with any food but if I would have I think it would pair well with a heavy porkchop or a light red meat due to its full body. I did not taste any oakiness but this is probably due to the fact th...

Intro post: My Experiences with Wine

Image
Wine is a new adventure to me and an experience that I am looking forward too. I do not know much about wine and that is why I decided to take this class to expand my knowledge. The only thing I know about the wine is color but I am aware of all the different variations of wine there are but I just don't know much about them. My previous experiences with wine just consist of whatever my parents are having with dinner. I don't pay attention to what type it is or where it is from I usually just drink it and don't think much of it. But I am really excited to be able to know more about the wine I am drinking and becoming knowledgeable in the differences between certain wines. Out of this class I hope I can get a better understanding about wine varieties. I hope I can learn more about the different flavor characteristics of wine and how to identify them when I taste them. I know there are so many different complexities with every wine that I just can not understand now. But hope...
